The robot for this season is very intricate and complex achieving most missions on the field. Missions not attempted yet include the gas bottle loop, stacking the two segments onto the grey tower and the progress mission.

For the World Festival in April we plan to also be attempting these missions however not all of the progress mission will be completed due to it needing 96 clicks to be completed.

Our robot stratergy for this year includes a base robot which has the ability to drive tools/gantries  from its four raw power outputs below the robots wheels. The robot also has two outputs at the back of the robot, allowing skins to be placed ontop of the robot. It is called UniBot 2.0 because it is very universal and is the second generation of the UniBot following last year's very successful robot. Shout out to Lego Vinir for the awesome robot idea which they kindly shared!

Route 1 - Great West

Named because of its size, complexity and its route, the Great West completes the west side of the board effortlessly. The base robot sits ontop of the gantry using the four raw outputs to drive it. A large two-stage boom arm is placed at the front of the Great West allowing it to extend up to 80cm. This allows missions in the house area to be achieved when the robot is touching the west wall! Meanwhie missions located in the north west corner of the baord are achieved. The plane is also triggered at the end.

This route shows our team's ability to build mechanically to the judges.

Route 2 - Skin

This robot takes advantage of the skin feature on the UniBot 2.0. The skin slides over the top of the robot any connects to drives at the back. This robot travels to the north east side of the board. A gantry is not used for this mission because it is very hard reach this area of the matt by walls.

Two light sensors either side of the robot are used to help keep the robot on track. We do this by squaring up to line. We have also developed a proportional line to follow, however have not used it yet this season. We have great intensions to replace this route for the World Festival because it is too slow and does not stack the segments onto the grey tower.

This route shows our team's ability to program to the judges.

Route 3 - Obstacles

Our third robot climbs over the obstacles to the red zone, taking with it all of our collected cargo including people and supplies. This route is very tight between the cargo plane tower and the obstacles north line. As a result the the wheels from the UniBot 2.0 must be removed. The UniBot 2.0 sits on top of the obstacles tool, making use of the raw outputs located at the bottom of the robot.

This robot climbs the obstacles effortlessly as if it is gliding over them. This is because we do not really climb them, our robot always stays horizontal to the mat. We do this by driving down the thin gap south of the obstacles. A conveyor belt with wheels attached to it is located north to the drive, this is the part of the robot in contact with the obstacles. When an obstacle hits the conveyor belt, the belt simply moves backwards and the new wheels from the belt touch back down onto the mat.

This route shows our teams ability to think innovatively to the judges.

Route 2 Rebuild - Skin 2

For the World Festival, we had more time to improve and develop our robots. We decided to completely replace the route 2 robot because we thought its route was clumsy and too slow. It also couldn't stack the grey towers and finally, we needed to collect the two radio loops on this route, now that it was ilegal to do so on route 3.

The robot is very similar to the original skin however it has added features, including a stacking mechanism and an arm on the left side to collect the two radio loops.

This route shows our team's ability to build mechanically to the judges.
